Overview

This covers a family of related formats rather than one fixed course: study visits built around a single theme, thematic workshops, peer-learning meetings, and teaching assignments where you deliver a session yourself. What combination runs depends on what your group agrees it wants to learn.

Four themes recur across the portfolio — digital inclusion, island education, sustainability, and community learning — and any of them can anchor a visit. Whichever you choose, the days are structured around it rather than a general tour, and the visit closes with an open educational resource that colleagues at home can use without having travelled.

Hosting is subject to confirmed capacity and partner availability, and no external organisation is named until it has confirmed in writing. Any accommodation, transport or cultural-programme element arranged alongside the visit is described and priced separately from the educational content.

Who it works best for

Adult educators, youth workers, school and VET staff and education coordinators who already have a theme in mind and want a structured way to explore it in an island-community setting — whether by observing, discussing, teaching, or producing something reusable from the visit.

Learning outcomes

• Agree, before arrival, a single theme — digital inclusion, island education, sustainability or community learning — and a realistic itinerary or assignment built around it.
• Take part in at least one thematic workshop or peer-learning meeting structured around that theme.
• Where a teaching assignment is agreed, plan and deliver a session to a local group, adapted to the host context.
• Convert what is observed, discussed or delivered into an open educational resource that others can reuse.
• Distinguish clearly, at every stage, between the educational programme and any accommodation, transport or cultural element arranged alongside it.
• Complete a dissemination and transfer plan for sharing the theme-based learning with colleagues at home.

Day-by-day programme

1. Before arrival — Choosing the theme and format

   Working with your organisation, Polymathia agrees a single theme — digital inclusion, island education, sustainability or community learning — and the right format: study visit, thematic workshop, peer-learning meeting or teaching assignment. Itinerary and any host institution are confirmed in writing before booking.

2. Opening — Orientation and theme framing

   Arrival briefing with the local contact person: the Chios context for your chosen theme, the people and settings you will meet, and how the days ahead connect to it. Objectives for the visit or assignment are confirmed and adjusted if needed before the core programme begins.

3. Core days — Workshops, meetings or teaching, on theme

   Depending on the agreed format: thematic workshops and peer-learning meetings with local staff, structured study-visit stops connected by the theme, or delivery of your teaching assignment to a local group. Each day includes time to note what is transferable to your own setting.

4. Preparing an open educational resource

   Working time to turn what you observed, discussed or taught into a reusable resource — a lesson outline, workshop format, case study or short guide — released under an open licence so colleagues elsewhere can use it without attending in person.

5. Debrief, dissemination and transfer plan

   Closing meeting to review the open educational resource and agree what is realistic to bring home. You leave with a written dissemination and transfer plan: who you will share the resource with, and how the theme-based learning will feed into your own practice.

Methodology

The format follows the theme, not the other way round: study visit, workshop, peer-learning meeting and teaching assignment are combined as needed once your group has agreed what it wants to learn. Every visit produces a concrete output — an open educational resource — rather than only an experience. Host, itinerary and duration are confirmed in writing before booking, and depend on confirmed host capacity.

€80 per hosting day · dates arranged with you

The fee includes:

• 25 hours of training in the classroom (60 min) ≈ 30 teaching hours (45 min)
• All training materials and a course pack
• Coffee breaks throughout the course
• A welcome dinner with the group
• A half-day cultural programme in the Mastic Villages, with a guide and transport
• Full administrative support: Learning Agreement, Europass Mobility document, Certificate of Attendance, invoice
• A Polymathia representative on site every day

Not included: travel, accommodation and meals outside the programme. We help you find accommodation in Chios at every budget.
